Episode Synopsis: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES Series “Rose” Season 2 Episode 8 – AN ANCIENT PRESENCE IN MYSTIC FALLS — Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) come to Elena’s assistance and, in the process, learn surprising new information about people, vampires and events in the distant past. Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) helps Bonnie (Katerina Graham) after she casts a difficult and exhausting spell, and Caroline (Candice Accola) does what she can to make things easier for Tyler (Michael Trevino). Finally, Stefan and Damon reach a new understanding. Liz Friedlander directed the episode written by Brian Young.

Rick Springfield reveals battle with his sexual appetite

Musician reveals to Access Hollywood that his problem and depression almost ruined his life

“Jessie’s Girl” made Rick Springfield famous, and at age 31, the rocker was at the top of his game — both in music and on TV — landing him the role of soap stud Dr. Noah Drake on “General Hospital.”

To the outside world, it seemed like Springfield was leading the dream Hollywood life. But in reality, Springfield was battling depression and had a problem with his sexual appetite — a problem that almost ruined his life.

“I had a huge house, money, a beautiful wife, kids, touring the world — and realizing that that wasn’t doing it,” Springfield told Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush in a new candid interview. “And I realized it hadn’t fixed me.”

Springfield said depression hit him at an early age — puberty, in fact. And it followed him into his skyrocketing career. In his new memoir, “Late, Late At Night,” he even gives his depression a name: Mr. D.

“Is it an over-exaggeration to say that you had an issue with sex addiction?” Bush asked the singer.

“I wouldn’t say that’s an over-exaggeration. I’d say it’s a part of my life and sex addiction is ... I don’t use that word in the book because it’s not to me, it’s just my sexual issue,” Springfield explained. “I wasn’t addicted to sex ... it was a habit that I fell into as a young musician. It didn’t become an issue until I finally found somebody that I didn’t want to lose because of it.”

That somebody Springfield referred to is his wife of over 25 years, Barbara.

“How close did you get to losing her?” Bush asked.

“Very close. I’ve come very close to losing her a couple times and the truth is, we both know that we’re better together than we are apart. So, we have fought the times that I have fallen off the wagon — nuked the wagon,” Rick said.

Springfield said his most recent “nuke the wagon” episode was in 2002 while he was working in Las Vegas — but what does his wife think about him baring his soul to the public in his new book?

“How does she feel about what you’re sharing?” Bush asked.

“Really uncomfortable,” Springfield replied, adding that while she may not approve, she understands it’s who he is.

“I’m a writer and she married a guy who writes about his life,” he continued. “All my songs are about most of my hits are about her. Honestly. Starting with ‘Don’t Talk to Strangers.’ A lot of my best songs have come from the dark side of me.”

After two-and-a-half decades together, is Springfield now comfortable in his loyalty to his wife?

“Will you stray again do you think?” Bush asked.

“God, I hope not. I hope not,” Springfield said. “But you know, it’s like anything — it’s not a given.”

 

Last Friday, I bought an Xbox 360 at my local K-Mart. It was probably a mistake getting it from K-Mart, but I sort of decided to buy it on the spot, didn’t really put much thought into it. After getting my Xbox 360 out of it’s box and all hooked up, I started wishing I had made the purchase directly from Microsoft instead. All is fine and well now, but I had nothing but problems for a few hours after setting the Xbox 360 up.

Right off the bat, I had three red lights on the Ring of Light. Not good. I followed the steps Microsoft suggests, after unplugging and re-plugging everything to the power supply, I finally got a green light and the Xbox 360 booted.

At this point, I did the initial configuration on the Xbox 360. I setup my profile and just started playing Need For Speed: Carbon. That didn’t last long though, the 360 started freezing up every minute or two. I kept rebooting it, hoping for a better result, but nothing.

After a few reboots, and barely getting a profile created in Need For Speed, I was presented with the error seen to the left. Click the image to make it bigger, sorry for the shitty picture. My heart really sunk at that point, the description of the E71 error message is rather disappointing: “E71: possibly a dashboard update error, there is no solution at present the console must be sent back to MS for repair.” There’s a nice post over at the xbox-scene forums that covers error codes and what to do about them. After finding the meaning of the E71 error message, I set out getting my Xbox 360 on my network. I was hoping a network connection would force the 360 to check for a dashboard update or something…anything.

Getting my Xbox 360 online wasn’t a problem, the hardest part was finding an ethernet cable long enough to go from my switch in the office to the living room. Once I had the network cable in the Xbox 360, I turned it on and it immediately said there was an update to download from Microsoft. It must have grabbed an IP really quickly from my DHCP server and checked for updates. Had I not had a DHCP server running, I may not have gotten the update. I don’t think I could have gotten into the dashboard to manually configure tcp/ip settings for the 360. It would have frozen up and that would have been it.

Anyway, the update downloaded and was installed, and my Xbox 360 was rebooted. After that, the 360 finally came up and my freeze problems were gone. So, if you’re having all sorts of flaky issues with your Xbox 360, try getting it on a network with an internet connection and see if it’ll download a dashboard update. I haven’t had any problems with stability since the initial update was downloaded, thank god! I really didn’t want to have to send my brand new Xbox 360 into Microsoft for servicing the day of purchasing it.

If you are experiencing problems like I was and this fix works for you, please let me know. This has probably been written about elsewhere, but unfortunately I couldn’t find it.

Dexter is back and darker than ever. Sunday's season 5 premiere titled "My Bad" shows our favorite serial killer in darker, more depressed state than ever before.

Dexter walks in to Rita, dead in the bathtub, killed by Trinity just hours before Dexter ended his life. The couple's baby, Harrison, is left, unharmed, sitting in a pool of his mother's blood. Dexter calls the police, who arrive with sister Deb. "Rita's inside," he says to her. "It was me."

Following the brutal murder of his wife, Rita, Dexter is left to deal with funeral arrangements, his children, guilt, and the FBI. As Dexter's colleagues turn Rita's murder case over to the FBI, Quinn begins to wonder about Dexter's role in Rita's death.

Following the murder the guys at the station begin to notice how emotionally lacking Dexter seems to be during this difficult time. Quinn grows even more suspicious when he finds out, Dexter may have had a motive - Rita's kiss with neighbor Elliot.

Deb and Quinn meet at Dexter's home where they clean up the bloody mess. Deb is an emotional basket case, and stressed from making most of the important decision for her brother, who can't seem to deal. Deb and Quinn have sex, and then she quickly brushes him off.

Cody and Aster's grandparents bring them home from Disneyland to find out that Rita is dead. The children, confused and upset shy away from Dexter. Aster tells her step-father that it's his fault for not protecting her mother.

Dexter's memory keeps wandering to his time with Rita. They're first date, and all of the times he had lied to her for selfish reasons. Dexter leaves the children with supervision and takes off on his boat before the funeral, skipping out on his FBI interview, making him seem even more suspicious.

While on the run, Dexter encounters a man, who is rude. Dexter snaps, beating the man to death. Finally, for the first time since Rita's death Dexter is showing some emotion. "That's the most human thing I've seen you do since she died," the ghost of Harry tells his son.

Dexter knows what he must do. He heads back to Miami just in time for Rita's funeral. "I wasn't even human when we first met," he tells the funeral goers. "I never expected that to change. She reached out and found something that wasn't even there."

That's where the episode ends, with Dexter under suspicion and ready to move on with his children. Although, the killer inside of him may not let him do that.
