Dexter is back and darker than ever. Sunday's season 5 premiere titled "My Bad" shows our favorite serial killer in darker, more depressed state than ever before.

Dexter walks in to Rita, dead in the bathtub, killed by Trinity just hours before Dexter ended his life. The couple's baby, Harrison, is left, unharmed, sitting in a pool of his mother's blood. Dexter calls the police, who arrive with sister Deb. "Rita's inside," he says to her. "It was me."

Following the brutal murder of his wife, Rita, Dexter is left to deal with funeral arrangements, his children, guilt, and the FBI. As Dexter's colleagues turn Rita's murder case over to the FBI, Quinn begins to wonder about Dexter's role in Rita's death.

Following the murder the guys at the station begin to notice how emotionally lacking Dexter seems to be during this difficult time. Quinn grows even more suspicious when he finds out, Dexter may have had a motive - Rita's kiss with neighbor Elliot.

Deb and Quinn meet at Dexter's home where they clean up the bloody mess. Deb is an emotional basket case, and stressed from making most of the important decision for her brother, who can't seem to deal. Deb and Quinn have sex, and then she quickly brushes him off.

Cody and Aster's grandparents bring them home from Disneyland to find out that Rita is dead. The children, confused and upset shy away from Dexter. Aster tells her step-father that it's his fault for not protecting her mother.

Dexter's memory keeps wandering to his time with Rita. They're first date, and all of the times he had lied to her for selfish reasons. Dexter leaves the children with supervision and takes off on his boat before the funeral, skipping out on his FBI interview, making him seem even more suspicious.

While on the run, Dexter encounters a man, who is rude. Dexter snaps, beating the man to death. Finally, for the first time since Rita's death Dexter is showing some emotion. "That's the most human thing I've seen you do since she died," the ghost of Harry tells his son.

Dexter knows what he must do. He heads back to Miami just in time for Rita's funeral. "I wasn't even human when we first met," he tells the funeral goers. "I never expected that to change. She reached out and found something that wasn't even there."

That's where the episode ends, with Dexter under suspicion and ready to move on with his children. Although, the killer inside of him may not let him do that.
